Ever Thought Of Writing A Nursing Blog?

Richard Bach once said something undoubtedly true - "A professional writer is an amateur who didn't quit."  I admit, I'm not a talented writer nor am I gifted with high vocabulary. But, writing allows me to express my thoughts, share my knowledge, spread laughter and get connected to other nurses around the globe. Other than that, it reduces stress! Let me tell you why.

Show the world what nursing is about.

When stress is a part of the daily grind, writing a blog is a great way to show the world and online readers what nursing is all about. Share the daily challenges of the profession and erase the misconception about nurses. We are not just people who carry a tray around and serve water.

Inspire students and new nurses.

By sharing your knowledge, thoughts and experiences, you don't only do it to de-stress yourself but also to share inspiration. Start writing about how patients showed appreciation, about how your coworkers helped you or even simply about how you started your day with positivity. I can't tell you how good it feels when you know you have motivated someone and helped them explore other specialties.

Learn from people with different beliefs and cultures.

After creating a blog and building your audience, you eventually create your own community. You may be interacting with people from other parts of the world. As a writer, you have to make sure that you are diverse and sensitive towards various cultures. You get to learn more from them too! It's a win-win situation.

Refuel your passion.

Someday or another, there will be a time when nurses will experience burnout. Read your past entries - they will remind you about why you became a nurse exactly and how grateful you are to be a part of this profession. Blogging is also one way to enrich life.

Allow your voice to be heard.

It's tough when the management of our facility won't consider what we have to say. Or, at times, we can be afraid to speak up. You may not be good in confronting verbally - how about bring them to writing? This way, you will know that you aren't the only one facing the same problem. Read and reply to the comments you receive. Help each other out and let your frustrations fade away.
