Health providers are always advised to be careful in handling newborns. Although they are small, they are fragile and sensitive as well. This is what a Filipino nurse seems to have forgotten, as she accidentally cut two of a newborn’s toes while changing its bandage in Pagadian City, Philippines.
According to a report which was first aired on GMA Network’s 24 Oras news program, the Filipino nurse was only going to cut the plaster from the newborn’s foot. However, she mistakenly included two of the baby’s toes without knowing. The newborn was immediately rushed to the operating room. Unfortunately, only one of the two toes was attached back to the baby’s foot.
The Filipino nurse is already subject for an inquest, per the news outlet. The victim’s parents are also considering filing a lawsuit against the hospital.
As Pregnancy-info noted, there are precautions that everyone needs to take when handling a baby, especially a newborn.
