Senator Trillanes Refiles The Comprehensive Nursing Law of 2015 In The Senate

After President Aquino vetoed the Comprehensive Nursing Law of 2015, which could have mandated the Salary raise of Nurses fin Private and Public Health Institutions, Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV refiled the said bill in the Senate last June 30, 2016.

Looking back when the bill was first approved by the Senate, In his sponsorship speech, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, chair of the Committee on Civil Service and Government Reorganization, said the measure intends to “expand the scope of nursing practice to encompass not only the nursing education service but also research, and leadership and governance, as inherent areas of the practice.”

“Due to the growing number of nurses in the country, some are forced to work under job order or contractual terms or seek better opportunities abroad because the government fails to address the needs of their profession,” Trillanes said in an interview.

“The situation must be changed, given that Filipino nurses are widely recognized as among the best healthcare providers in the world. Our nurses’ skills and brand of service are very much recognized and sought abroad,” he added.

Trillanes is the main sponsor of the bill.

As he promised, Sen. Trillanes refiled the vetoed bill in the Senate last June 30, 2016 as seen in the Facebook post of nurse- entrepreneur Carl Balita. Attached is the copy of the bill and date it was received in the senate.

In his post, Balita also urged the PNA or Philippine Nurses Association to pledge there full support in the campaign towards the passing of the refiled bill.
