Overcoming NLE- related Anxiety

The Nursing Licensure Examination is perhaps foreseen by many nursing students as the biggest monster to defeat at the end of their game. Regarded as the final conquest, it is undeniably nerve racking and scrutinizing to the brain (and heart, also) just merely thinking about how the questions will be and whether you can survive the 1st item of the part 1. Just think about the 4 long agonizing years you went through in the nursing school just to get to this point, All those dreaded daily quizzes, Anatomy moving exams, Toxic related learning experiences and the list just goes on... And finding yourself excluded from the list of Passers. Then you hopefully check the list of top notchers, but to your surprise, your name's still not there. Ouch. Yes, you failed. But wait. NO. Erase that one. Sometimes the pressure of imagining the "failing scene" helps a lot, Doesn't it?

First of all, it takes a lot of SELF CONFIDENCE. No one knows your capacities better than yourself. Set a positive atmosphere. Drop off that stigma you attach with yourself basing on how you did things during your college days, the Board Exam is totally different. Well, it is said that the primary source of knowledge when answering the board comes from the comprehensive memory/ ideas you have gained during the 4 years of learning in school. Hence, if you were off the cafeteria while your clinical instructor discussed the pathophysiology of Glomerulonephritis, then better start scanning your books now and mark important keywords.

A lot of examinees fail to realize that the best way to easily patch up with the review points is to understand the concept itself and not to memorize every word they see. Let me share a technique I personally used which, based on my observation and my Board Ratings ( Boasting aside), was quite effective. When I study about a specific topic for example, I talk with myself in my dialect as if I was talking to another person, discussing the process, systems of the topic and emphasizing the "branches" rather than the "trunk". This means highlighting details rather than the concept as a whole. In this way, you will not only be familiarized with the main topic, but also to many important points beneath it which are mostly targeted to be taken as questions by the board of nursing.

Most students resort to review centers after graduation to start off with their Board Exam journeys. Not only thus review centers boost your confidence, but you might also uncover some concepts that you have missed during college. No clinical instructor is perfect, sometimes they fail to mention or discuss important concepts that unfortunately might come out of the 500-item exam. Thanks to the review centers, with various lecturers for each area of nursing, the gap of knowledge are filled in. Also, review centers will guide you from the starting point up to the moment of truth, so be sure to be wise and sensible when choosing the review center you are tying up with.

You don't have to be pressuring yourself too much, Although it is undeniable that the NLE is truly unpredictable and unstable in nature, I'm sure that the answers to the questions are just around the corners of your brain. Should you encounter words or phrases that are totally strange to you, look for context clues or better yet, look at the choices and choose sensibly. Always remember that it's better to make an Intelligent guess than having no answers at all.

Finally, find time for entertainment and relaxation. Your mind won't function as it should when it's overworked or stressed. Go out and watch movies, dine at your favorite steakhouse, do sports and find peace. A positive outlook produces a positive outcome.
