Filipino Nurses Find Ally In British Ambulance Worker

Embodying the spirit of a Filipino, Malcolm Conlan, an Englishman, took a stand against the biased report of British newspaper Daily Mail that "belittles" Filipino nurses.

Malcolm Conlan defended the Filipino nurses through an open letter directed to the editor-in-chief of Daily Mail. This was in response to the “racially abusive article” of Filipino healthcare workers and nurses following the conviction of Philippine-born nurse Victorino Chua for murdering several patients.

Conlan highlighted in his letter that "there are a great many Filipinos employed within the United Kingdom and emphasizing the nationality of Victoriano Chua served no purpose other than to cause offense to many Filipinos around UK."

Malcolm Conlan, dubbed as “Pinoy at Heart” by netizens because of his love of the Philippines and its people, stressed that the Philippines and the Filipino people should be proud of their contribution to the healthcare system all over the world.

“Finally, I know I speak for many in this country who have experienced excellent, professional healthcare from Filipino nurses and carers here and I believe Filipinos should be proud of the world class service they deliver.” Conlan said.

Filipino netizens and supporters were enraged by the racist article resulting to rallies, demanding the newspaper’s public apology.

Conlan on the recently celebrated Philippine Independence Day posted a picture with Filipino nurses, praising and appreciating their worldwide contribution.

“Thank you to Filipino nurses worldwide for all that you do for us. It's deeply appreciated...” quoting Conlan.

Malcolm Conlan has always been vocal in expressing his thoughts against Filipino racial attacks. Three months ago he also wrote an open letter to Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Long to protest a racist article against Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Singapore - again, in defense of the majority of Filipino workers.

Conlan is married to a Filipina and lives in London but still tied his heart to the Filipinos.  He does charity events whenever he is in the Philippines and is the founder of Fil-event.com, a website promoting Filipino events, business, culture, and travel.
